Hoang Anh Gia Lai Football Club (HAGL FC) has issued an official statement in response to the indefinite transfer ban imposed by FIFA.
On October 25, 2024, HAGL received official notice from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) regarding the application of FIFA’s sanction. As per this notice, HAGL is prohibited from registering new players, both domestically and internationally, due to unresolved financial obligations related to a dispute with former player Martin Dzilah. The ban will remain in effect until HAGL fulfills its obligations according to FIFA’s ruling.
Addressing this situation, HAGL FC provided details about the case. They stated: “At 3:00 PM on March 21, 2024, at the HAGL FC office located at 15 Truong Chinh Street, Pleiku City, Gia Lai Province, Martin Dzilah and HAGL FC signed a labor contract termination agreement. The club paid Martin Dzilah $20,000 in accordance with the agreement, and Dzilah signed a document confirming receipt of the amount.”
However, on August 30, 2024, HAGL received a decision from FIFA, which required the club to pay Dzilah an additional $29,000. This decision was based on a complaint filed by Dzilah, claiming that the club terminated his contract unfairly and coerced him into signing the termination agreement and the receipt, even though the funds were not transferred into his account.
In response, HAGL FC explained that they have filed an appeal with FIFA to clarify the nature of the situation. Furthermore, the club has submitted an official request to Vietnamese state authorities to investigate and resolve the matter, aiming to bring clarity to the case.
The club emphasized that the relevant authorities are currently investigating the issue. Once the matter is resolved, HAGL FC promised to release further information to their fans and the media.
This development has garnered significant attention, as HAGL, a prominent club in Vietnamese football, faces a crucial period in which they are unable to make new player registrations due to the ban imposed by FIFA. Fans are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the investigation and the club’s next steps in resolving this dispute.
