Hoang Anh Gia Lai’s young star Tran Gia Bao played a pivotal role as U17 Vietnam secured a 2-0 win over U17 Myanmar in the second match of Group I at the 2025 AFC U17 Asian Cup qualifiers. This victory was crucial for U17 Vietnam as they continue to chase a spot in the finals of the tournament.
U17 Vietnam entered the match with the pressure of needing a win after a goalless draw in their opening game against U17 Kyrgyzstan. The team dominated possession and created numerous scoring opportunities throughout the match, but Myanmar’s disciplined defense kept the Vietnamese attackers at bay for most of the game.
Despite their dominance, U17 Vietnam had to wait until the 69th minute to find the breakthrough. The goal came from Van Duong, who finally capitalized on an opportunity after a well-executed offensive play. His strike brought much-needed relief to the team and their supporters, as the goal put them in control of the game.
As the clock wound down, U17 Vietnam continued to push for a second goal to secure the victory and improve their goal difference in the group standings. In the 89th minute, U17 Myanmar’s defense made a costly mistake, which Duy Dang quickly exploited. The young Vietnamese player raced down the sideline and sent a precise pass into the box. Tran Gia Bao, the young Hoang Anh Gia Lai star, was perfectly positioned to tap the ball into an open net, scoring his first goal of the tournament and sealing the 2-0 victory for Vietnam.
With this result, U17 Vietnam has 4 points from 2 matches, placing them in second place behind Yemen, who lead the group with 6 points after two straight victories. The Vietnamese team is now set for a decisive final group match against Yemen, where they will need a victory to secure their spot in the finals of the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2025.
U17 coach Cristiano Roland expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance but also highlighted the need for improvement in converting chances. “We created many opportunities, but it’s important that we capitalize on them earlier in the match,” he said. “We’ll be focusing on that as we prepare for our next challenge.”
The final match against Yemen will be a crucial one, as only a win can guarantee U17 Vietnam’s progression to the next stage.
