Vietnam’s futsal team cruised to a commanding 14-0 victory over Brunei in their latest Group A match at the 2024 ASEAN Futsal Championship this afternoon. With this win, Coach Diego Giustozzi’s squad secured their third consecutive victory, putting them on the brink of a semifinal berth, dependent on the outcome of the upcoming Malaysia-Thailand match.
Vietnam set the tone early, opening the scoring within two minutes as Thai Huy made an impressive solo run down the right flank before firing a shot into the far corner of Brunei’s goal. Just a minute later, Thai Huy struck again, doubling the lead with another goal that underscored Vietnam’s attacking prowess.
Despite the fast start, Vietnam’s defense briefly wavered, leaving goalkeeper Van Y to make a crucial save in the 5th minute, denying Brunei’s Amirul from capitalizing on a breakaway. This close call refocused the Vietnamese players, who regrouped and regained control of the match.
In the 10th minute, Doan Phat’s well-placed shot extended Vietnam’s lead to 3-0. Eager to add to the tally, Vietnam employed a power-play strategy in the last three minutes of the first half, but Brunei’s determined defense prevented further goals. A 10-meter penalty for Brunei in the 18th minute provided another challenge, but Van Y once again stood tall, stopping Metali’s shot to keep Vietnam’s clean sheet intact.
The second half saw Brunei struggle to keep pace as Vietnam intensified their attack. Just a minute into the half, Nhat Trung scored from the right side, making it 4-0. Moments later, Anh Dung added another, bringing the score to 5-0. From there, Vietnam unleashed a flurry of goals: Duc Hoa in the 26th minute, Thai Huy in the 27th, Thinh Phat in the 31st, and Minh Quang twice in the 33rd and 34th minutes. Mi Woen (35’, 36’), Da Hai (38’), and Ngoc Anh (39’) each added to the tally, culminating in an emphatic 14-0 victory.
This decisive win maintains Vietnam’s unbeaten record in the tournament. Now, the team awaits the result of the Malaysia-Thailand match at 6:00 p.m. tonight. If Malaysia fails to beat Thailand, Vietnam will secure their place in the semifinals with one group match to spare, marking a successful campaign thus far for Coach Giustozzi and his players.
