On the afternoon of November 15, 2024, the VFF Disciplinary Committee announced penalties for Nguyen Xuan Nam (PVF-CAND) and Vu Van Son (Youth Ho Chi Minh FC) following their involvement in a post-match brawl at Thong Nhat Stadium on November 14, 2024.
According to VFF Disciplinary Chairman Vu Xuan Thanh, both players were fined 20 million VND and suspended for four matches across all professional football competitions in Vietnam. As club-level competitions in Vietnam only have one remaining round in 2024, the suspensions will carry over, preventing the players from returning to the field until 2025.
Additionally, PVF-CAND’s Team Leader, Mai Trung Hai, was fined 10 million VND and banned from performing his duties for the next three matches. PVF-CAND’s media officer, Nguyen Thi Thu Nga, received a 5-million-VND fine and a two-match suspension for verbally abusing the refereeing team during the match between PVF-CAND and Youth Ho Chi Minh FC.
The incident occurred after the final whistle of the National First Division match between PVF-CAND and Youth Ho Chi Minh FC, part of Round 4 of the 2024/2025 season. On their way to the dressing rooms, Nguyen Xuan Nam and Vu Van Son were involved in a heated altercation that escalated into a physical confrontation.
The Disciplinary Committee’s swift actions highlight VFF’s commitment to maintaining discipline and respect within Vietnamese football. The organization emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable and will continue to enforce strict measures to ensure a fair and professional environment for all players and officials.
