Hanoi Police FC breaks losing streak with victory over Binh Dinh

Hanoi Police FC ended their recent losing run with a commanding 3-0 win over Binh Dinh on November 20, 2024, at Hang Day Stadium. This victory not only lifted the team’s spirits but also avenged their heavy 1-4 defeat to Binh Dinh last season.

Having suffered defeats in their last two matches, losing 0-1 to HAGL and 1-2 to Ho Chi Minh FC, Hanoi Police FC entered this match under pressure. With the upcoming international break for the Vietnam national team, coach Mano Polking knew that a positive result was crucial.

In a tactical setup, Hanoi Police FC lined up in a 3-4-3 formation, with three central defenders—Jason Quang Vinh Pendant, Hugo Gomes, and Tran Dinh Trong—providing a solid foundation at the back. Le Pham Thanh Long played as a defensive midfielder, supporting the team’s attacking efforts. From the outset, Hanoi Police FC took control of the match.

In the 4th minute, Leonardo Artur’s clever through ball set up Alan Sebastiao for a chance, but Binh Dinh goalkeeper Huynh Tuan Linh made a crucial save. Seven minutes later, Alan returned the favor with a pass for Artur, who nearly found the target, but his volley went over the bar.

Hanoi Police FC finally broke the deadlock in the 24th minute. Vu Van Thanh delivered a precise cross from the left, allowing Hugo Gomes to outjump Tran Trong Hieu and head home. Just two minutes later, Thanh Long’s long ball found Thanh on the right, who crossed for Alan to finish from close range, making it 2-0. Alan didn’t celebrate out of respect for his former club.

Binh Dinh struggled to find their rhythm, especially after losing star player Vu Van Thanh to an injury in the 43rd minute, replaced by Nguyen Van Duc.

In the second half, Binh Dinh made attacking changes, bringing on foreign players Alisson Farias and Vu Minh Tuan. The changes paid off with improved attacking play, but Hanoi Police FC’s defense remained resolute. In the 62nd minute, Farias set up Leonardo Santo, who failed to get the ball past Hanoi Police goalkeeper Nguyen Filip.

Binh Dinh’s best chance came in the 70th minute when Minh Tuan’s clever assist to Santo was wasted as his shot sailed over the bar. That was the last significant opportunity for the visitors.

As the match neared its conclusion, Hanoi Police FC sealed the win in the 89th minute with a third goal. Quang Hai’s precise long ball found Le Van Do, who raced forward and chipped the ball over Huynh Tuan Linh for Dinh Bac to head into an empty net, making it 3-0. The 20-year-old striker celebrated with a message written on his shin guard, reading “Never give up.”

With the win, Hanoi Police FC moved up to 5th place with 14 points, tied with Hanoi FC but ahead on goal difference (+7 compared to +3). They are 6 points behind the league leaders, Thanh Hoa. Meanwhile, Binh Dinh remains in 9th place, 3 points behind Hanoi Police FC.

After this victory, Hanoi Police FC will take a break for the national team’s preparation for the ASEAN Cup 2024. The V-League will resume in January 2025.
