On the afternoon of November 28, 2024, the Vietnam national football team played their second friendly match on South Korean soil, facing Daegu FC, a representative of K-League 1. In this match, Coach Kim Sang Sik continued experimenting with his starting lineup. The Vietnamese team fielded a lineup consisting of center-backs Bui Tien Dung, Ho Tan Tai, Pham Xuan Manh, and Van Thanh; midfielders Chau Ngoc Quang, Quang Hai, Phan Van Duc, and Thanh Long; with forwards Dinh Thanh Binh and Pham Tuan Hai.
On the opposing side, Daegu FC started with their reserve squad, which had been anticipated in advance due to the team’s preparations for the K-League 1 relegation play-offs. Despite not fielding their best lineup, Daegu FC proved to be a challenging opponent.
In the early minutes of the match, Daegu FC took control of the game, creating several dangerous attacks on the Vietnamese goal. However, the defense, well-organized and disciplined under Coach Kim Sang Sik, stood firm and handled the pressure effectively.
After being under pressure initially, the Vietnamese team regained composure and began to create some dangerous attacking situations. In the 44th minute, Quang Hải opened the scoring with a powerful strike that found the back of the net, giving Vietnam a 1-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Vietnam continued to make several substitutions. Coach Kim’s side maintained their dominance on the field. Daegu FC struggled to break down the Vietnamese defense and create significant pressure. In the 84th minute, Hai Long doubled the lead with a precise header, making it 2-0 for Vietnam.
In the final minutes, Daegu FC pushed forward, hoping to reduce the deficit. However, the Vietnamese defense held strong, successfully neutralizing the attacking threats and securing the clean sheet. The match ended with a 2-0 victory for Vietnam.
This win marks Vietnam’s second consecutive 2-0 victory in their friendly matches against South Korean sides, following their earlier triumph over Ulsan Citizen FC. Next, Vietnam will face Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC in their final friendly match at 12:00 on December 1, 2024.
This successful series of friendlies is a crucial part of Vietnam’s preparation for the upcoming ASEAN Cup 2024, as Coach Kim Sang Sik fine-tunes the team’s tactics and builds their momentum ahead of the regional tournament.
