Coach Kim Sang Sik affirmed that the match against Laos on the opening day of the ASEAN Cup 2024 will not be an easy one for the Vietnam national team.
On December 9, the Vietnam national team will play their first match in the ASEAN Cup 2024 against Laos. The pre-match press conference took place on the evening of December 8 at the National Stadium of Laos.
Ahead of the match, Vietnam’s coach Kim Sang Sik shared: “The last time we faced Laos, Vietnam won 6-0. But that is in the past. This ASEAN Cup is very interesting, at least based on what I saw in the Cambodia vs Malaysia match. So, tomorrow’s match against Laos is still a tough one that we need to overcome.
Although Thailand didn’t have a strong lineup in their draw against Laos, the Laos national team still showed they have quality and are improving every day under coach Ha Hyeok Jun. I know coach Ha because we met in K-League, and I can see he is doing very well, helping the Lao players progress.
The first match is important. We have many talented players, and tomorrow the team will put into practice everything we’ve prepared over the past few weeks, both in Vietnam and South Korea. The goal is to achieve the best result and create a winning mentality for this tournament. Hopefully, there won’t be any major issues tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, team captain Duy Manh said: “Playing for the Vietnam national team is always an honor for me. Being trusted by my teammates and the coaching staff to be the captain, I will work even harder to help the team achieve the goals we’ve set.”
