Midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai expressed his immense happiness after scoring the winning goal for Vietnam in their 1-0 victory over Indonesia, especially as it was the first time his son had come to the stadium to cheer for him.
Thanks to effective tactics and the right adjustments, Vietnam defeated Indonesia 1-0 at the Viet Tri Stadium (Viet Tri, Phu Tho Province), with Quang Hai’s goal coming after two powerful shots in the 77th minute.
After the match, the captain of the team shared, “The entire team entered the match with great spirit. We are very happy to have secured this victory to dedicate to the fans who came to support the team.”
He added, “Today is very special because it’s the first time my wife brought our son to the stadium to cheer for me. I am very happy because they have given me so much motivation. I dedicate this goal to my son and wife, as well as to all the football fans in Vietnam today.”
This second consecutive victory helped Vietnam reclaim the top spot in Group B with 6 points, 2 points ahead of Indonesia (3 matches, 4 points), although Vietnam still has one match to play. This positions Coach Kim Sang Sik’s team closer to a spot in the Asean Cup 2024 semifinals.
The number 19 midfielder expressed, “I believe this victory has boosted our confidence a lot and motivates us to keep pushing forward. The most important thing is that the team has a lot of momentum for the upcoming matches.”
After the match, Quang Hai and his teammates will fly to Manila to prepare for their away game against the Philippines on December 18th, before returning to Viet Tri for their final group stage match against Myanmar on December 21st.
