Coach Tsutomu Ogura wishes for Vietnam to win the 2024 ASEAN Cup

On the evening of December 29, the second leg of the AFF Cup 2024 semi-finals concluded with Vietnam defeating Singapore 3-1 at Viet Tri Stadium. With a 5-1 aggregate score, Coach Kim Sang Sik’s Vietnam secured a place in the tournament’s final.

Following the match, Singapore’s head coach Tsutomu Ogura expressed his admiration for Vietnam and his pride in his team’s performance. “We still do not know whether Vietnam’s opponent in the final will be Thailand or the Philippines, as that will be decided tomorrow,” Ogura remarked. “I would like to congratulate Vietnam on advancing to the final. You have talented, high-quality players, and I am confident that your team will showcase strong performances in the final.”

Speaking about Singapore’s journey, Ogura said: “I am proud of my players. They played well, demonstrated strong fighting spirit, and showed no fear when facing Vietnam. I am satisfied with this outcome because my players have improved with each match and are becoming more well-rounded.”

Addressing decisions made with the assistance of VAR, Ogura noted: “Throughout this tournament, including matches against Thailand and Vietnam, there have been several occasions requiring VAR review. Regarding the referee’s decisions today, I have no objections and respect their judgment. However, we need to improve further to avoid situations that lead to penalties.”

The AFF Cup 2024 final will take place on January 2 and January 5, 2025, with Vietnam set to compete for the regional championship.
