Tran Anh Tu, Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), expressed deep admiration for the fighting spirit of midfielder Doan Ngoc Tan, who played a pivotal role in helping the Vietnam national team secure the ASEAN Cup 2024 title in Thailand. The team left a lasting impression not only for their performance on the pitch but also for their unity and determination throughout the tournament.
Speaking to the media on January 9, Tran Anh Tu said, “From the first day of the training camp to the final match, the atmosphere within the team was optimistic and cohesive. The squad displayed exceptional teamwork. I highly value the role of head coach Kim Sang Sik, as well as key players like Duy Manh, Quang Hai, and Tien Linh.”
He elaborated further, “Duy Manh has truly proven himself as a leader of the team. He consistently keeps the squad motivated and united. Quang Hai and Tien Linh have also made significant contributions to maintaining the team’s spirit.”
Tu emphasized the importance of solidarity as a key factor in Vietnam’s success, adding, “The players often shake hands before every breakfast, which is a strong demonstration of their camaraderie. This comes from the guidance of the head coach and the indispensable role of the team leaders.”
Among the standout players in the tournament, Doan Ngoc Tan, a newcomer to the national team, caught the Vice President’s eye. Reflecting on his contribution, Tu said, “Over the six weeks of training and competition, the entire team sacrificed a great deal and fought with unwavering determination. Doan Ngoc Tan embodies this spirit perfectly.”
He continued, “Despite suffering an injury after scoring a crucial goal, Ngoc Tan pushed through the pain to continue contributing. After the final against Thailand, I suggested he return to Vietnam for the victory celebration, and I even sought permission from Thanh Hoa FC’s management for his participation. However, Ngoc Tan chose to stay in Thailand to prepare for his club’s match against BG Pathum United. His commitment paid off, as he scored again in that game. Ngoc Tan’s professionalism and fighting spirit are truly commendable.”
