Coach Kim Sang Sik gains attention from South Korea media after 2024 ASEAN Cup

Coach Kim Sang Sik has been in high demand in South Korea recently, becoming a guest of various prominent media outlets following his success in leading Vietnam to the 2024 ASEAN Cup championship.

After guiding the Vietnamese national team to victory, Coach Kim has been celebrated both in Vietnam and his home country, South Korea. In recent days, he has appeared as a guest on renowned media platforms such as MBN, KBS, and JoongAng Ilbo.

In an interview with JoongAng Ilbo, Coach Kim shared some fascinating insights about the journey to the ASEAN Cup title.

“Even now, days after winning the championship, I still feel like I’m waking up from a beautiful dream,” he said. “I’ve heard of many organizations wanting to reward me. For example, a golf club in Vietnam offered me a platinum membership. And when I take taxis in Vietnam, the drivers often refuse to take my fare. It’s truly amazing.”

Discussing his celebratory dance after Vietnam’s triumph, Coach Kim revealed: “I was surprised to see how much the players knew about me when I first met them. They even knew that I danced when I led Jeonbuk Hyundai to victory in 2021 and remembered my tenacious marking against Zidane during the 2006 World Cup. The players requested that I dance if we won the championship, and I agreed immediately.”

In another interview with KBS, Coach Kim elaborated on the inspiration behind his celebratory moves: “My dance is inspired by my brother. He’s a much better dancer than I am.”

The candid and heartfelt anecdotes from Coach Kim have further endeared him to fans in both South Korea and Vietnam, highlighting his humility and the strong bonds he has formed with his team. His remarkable achievement with Vietnam continues to capture the admiration of football enthusiasts across Asia.
