The round 10 match of the LPBank V.League 1-2024/25 between Thep Xanh Nam Dinh and The Cong Viettel lived up to expectations with intense and fierce competition. The absence of star striker Nguyen Xuan Son was a significant setback for Thep Xanh Nam Dinh, and despite coach Vu Hong Viet’s best efforts, the gap left by the player has yet to be effectively filled.
Playing at home, Thep Xanh Nam Dinh struggled to dominate The Cong Viettel, known for their disciplined and layered defensive style. After a goalless and evenly contested first half, The Cong Viettel’s coach, Duc Thang, introduced Nham Manh Dung in the second half. The substitution paid off when Dung scored the only goal of the match with a precise header.
Thep Xanh Nam Dinh’s late attempts to equalize only added excitement to the match. However, The Cong Viettel relied on their trademark defensive strategy to secure the narrow victory. With these valuable three points, The Cong Viettel climbed from mid-table to third place, just two points behind second-placed Thep Xanh Nam Dinh, but with a game in hand.
Meanwhile, league leaders Dong A Thanh Hoa missed an opportunity to extend their lead, settling for a 1-1 draw at home against Hong Linh Ha Tinh. The inability of both Dong A Thanh Hoa and Thep Xanh Nam Dinh to win in round 10 opened the door for the chasing pack to close the gap.
Similar to The Cong Viettel, another capital city representative, Hanoi FC, earned a solid 2-0 away win at Hoa Xuan Stadium against SHB Da Nang. This victory propelled Hanoi FC to fourth place, just one point behind The Cong Viettel.
The presence of The Cong Viettel and Hanoi FC in the top four has intensified the LPBank V.League 1-2024/25 title race, promising unpredictable developments in the coming weeks. Both teams boast experience in long campaigns and have squads filled with national team players and exceptional foreign talents, making them likely contenders for the championship.
However, the league’s competitiveness extends beyond The Cong Viettel and Hanoi FC. Mid-table teams like Hong Linh Ha Tinh (fifth, 16 points), Hanoi Police FC (sixth, 15 points), Becamex Binh Duong (seventh, 14 points), and Hoang Anh Gia Lai (eighth, 13 points) are separated by slim margins. Just a few wins or losses could significantly shake up the standings.
Round 11 of the LPBank V.League 1-2024/25 will take place on January 23 and 24, before teams break for the Lunar New Year. All teams are pushing for favorable results to celebrate the New Year in high spirits.
For players, there is an added motivation to perform well. The recent success of the Vietnamese national team under coach Kim Sang Sik at the 2024 ASEAN Cup demonstrated that strong performances in the domestic league can lead to opportunities to represent the national team.
As the Lunar New Year approaches, the LPBank V.League 1-2024/25 remains a focal point of attention for both participants and fans, promising more excitement in the final days of the year.
