Vietnam’s two top male badminton players competed in the Masters 2025 tournament in China but did not achieve the expected results.
On March 12 (local time) in Ruichang, China, players entered the main draw of the men’s and women’s singles events.
Vietnam had two representatives in the men’s singles main draw, Nguyen Hai Dang and Le Duc Phat, both of whom were seeded players.
In his opening match, Nguyen Hai Dang (5th seed) faced China’s Liang Liu. Hai Dang started at a high pace, but Liang Liu’s effective defense and precise shot selection made the difference. Unable to overpower his opponent, Hai Dang lost 0-2 (13-21, 17-21) and was eliminated from the tournament.
In the following match, Le Duc Phat (4th seed) faced Cheng Kai (Chinese Taipei).
- First game: Cheng Kai dominated with powerful smashes, forcing Duc Phat onto the defensive and winning 21-9.
- Second game: Duc Phat found his rhythm, making the match more competitive. He capitalized on his service points and won 24-22.
- Third game: Both players remained composed, but Duc Phat lacked precision in key moments, allowing Cheng Kai to anticipate his shots. Duc Phat lost 10-21 and was eliminated with a 1-2 defeat.
With these results, both Vietnamese players exited the China Masters 2025 in the first round. This tournament is classified as a BWF World Tour Super 100 event.
