Hanoi, 20 June, 2025 – On the afternoon of June 20, head coach Kim Sang Sik announced the 35-player squad for the third training camp of 2025 for the Vietnam U22 national team, in preparation for their title defense at the 2025 AFF U23 Championship.
This squad mainly consists of familiar faces who had joined the team in the two previous training camps under interim coach Dinh Hong Vinh. The first camp took place during the FIFA Days in March 2025, where the team participated in the CFA Team China International Football Tournament in Jiangsu (China), facing strong opponents such as Uzbekistan, South Korea, and the host nation China. The second camp was held in June 2025.
A notable highlight of this squad is the inclusion of eight players who helped Vietnam win the 2023 AFF U23 Championship. These are goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien, defender Nguyen Hong Phuc, midfielders Nguyen Van Truong, Khuat Van Khang, Dinh Xuan Tien, and forwards Nguyen Dang Duong, Le Dinh Long Vu, and Nguyen Quoc Viet. Among them, Khuat Van Khang is a regular member of the senior national team.

Striker Nguyen Dinh Bac makes his return after suffering a toe fracture in March. Born in 2004, he is considered one of Vietnam’s brightest young talents, having scored against the Philippines in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and against Japan in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup finals.
The squad also features two promising overseas Vietnamese players: midfielder Le Viktor (Hong Linh Ha Tinh) and forward Bui Alex (Bohemians Praha 1905 B, Czech Republic). Additionally, young midfielder Nguyen Ngoc My (Dong A Thanh Hoa) joins the squad after recovering from an injury sustained in March. However, the team will be without striker Bui Vi Hao, who is recovering from surgery and will need up to 10 months to return.
According to the plan, the team will gather in Ba Ria – Vung Tau from June 26 and depart for Indonesia on July 14. The 2025 AFF U23 Championship will take place from July 15 to July 29. In the group stage, Vietnam U23 will face Laos on July 19 and Cambodia on July 22. The team has won the championship for two consecutive years, in 2022 and 2023.
