Dong Nai, 29 October 2025 – After weeks sidelined by injury, Nguyen Cong Phuong has officially returned to full training with Truong Tuoi Dong Nai FC, ahead of their away match against Thanh Nien Ho Chi Minh City. The striker’s comeback is seen as a major boost for the Southern club as they continue their strong start to the 2025/26 National First Division campaign.
In a positive development for Dong Nai FC, striker Nguyen Cong Phuong has rejoined team training after recovering from an injury that kept him out of action for the opening rounds of the National First Division. His return adds valuable firepower to coach Nguyen Viet Thang’s squad, who are currently chasing promotion to the V.League 1.
The absence of Cong Phuong, one of Vietnam’s most technically gifted forwards, had been a significant setback for Dong Nai early in the season. Known for his creativity and sharp finishing, the 1995-born forward remains a central figure in the club’s attacking plans.
According to the official squad list for the 2025/26 season, Cong Phuong will wear the iconic No.10 jersey, a number deeply associated with his peak years at Hoang Anh Gia Lai. This marks the first time in four seasons that he has donned the number again — the last occasion being in V.League 1 2022, when he played for his boyhood club in Pleiku.
Beyond its symbolic meaning, the No.10 shirt also represents a personal statement of determination from Cong Phuong as he looks to reignite his career. Last season, the forward endured heartbreak when he missed a crucial penalty in the play-off match against Da Nang, costing Truong Tuoi Dong Nai their chance at promotion. After five rounds, Dong Nai sit third in the standings with 11 points, level with Ba Ria–Vung Tau but trailing on goal difference, and just one point behind league leaders Khanh Hoa. A win in their upcoming trip to Thong Nhat Stadium could see Dong Nai temporarily climb to the top of the table.
