Indonesia, 16 April 2026 – U17 Vietnam surged to the top of Group A after a commanding victory over Timor-Leste U17 at the 2026 AFF U17 Championship.
In their second group-stage match on April 16, Vietnam U17 delivered a stunning performance, thrashing Timor-Leste U17 10–0. The emphatic win not only showcased their attacking strength but also highlighted their defensive solidity, as they have yet to concede a goal in the tournament. With this result, coach Cristiano Roland’s side climbed to the top of Group A with a perfect six points and a remarkable goal difference of +14, having scored 14 goals and conceded none after two matches.
On the same day, the group standings took another twist as hosts Indonesia U17 suffered a surprising 0–1 defeat to Malaysia U17. That result saw Indonesia slip to third place with three points and a +3 goal difference. Meanwhile, Malaysia U17 bounced back from their earlier 0–4 loss to Vietnam to move into second place. Although they also have three points, Malaysia rank above Indonesia thanks to their superior head-to-head record, despite holding a negative goal difference of -3.
Timor-Leste U17 remain at the bottom of the group, still without a point and with a goal difference of -14 after two heavy defeats.
The final round of Group A promises to be decisive. Vietnam U17 will face Indonesia U17 on April 19 in what is expected to be a high-stakes clash, while Malaysia U17 will take on Timor-Leste U17. With qualification on the line, all teams will be pushing hard, but Vietnam currently hold a strong advantage thanks to their dominant form and goal difference.
