PVF-CAND hold The Cong Viettel to pile pressure on SHB Da Nang in relegation battle

Hanoi, 22 May – 2026 – PVF-CAND boosted their survival hopes after earning a valuable 1-1 draw against The Cong Viettel in Round 24 of V.League 1 2025/2026.

Playing at Hang Day Stadium on May 22, PVF-CAND entered the match with high determination in their battle against relegation. Coach Tran Tien Dai’s side showed confidence from the opening minutes and matched The Cong Viettel in an attacking contest.

Missing several key players, including top striker Lucao do Break and defender Dinh Viet Tu due to suspension, The Cong Viettel looked far from their best. PVF-CAND took advantage and opened the scoring in the 25th minute through a penalty converted by Alastair Reynolds.

After conceding, the home side gradually regained control and increased the pressure during the latter stages of the first half. However, facing a compact defensive setup from PVF-CAND, the army team struggled to create clear chances and relied heavily on crosses and long-range efforts.

The equalizer finally arrived in the 76th minute thanks to Dinh Xuan Tien. The midfielder controlled Phan Tuan Tai’s cross brilliantly before firing a low shot into the far corner, leaving goalkeeper Do Sy Huy with no chance.

Determined to claim all three points at home, The Cong Viettel pushed forward aggressively in the closing stages and created several dangerous opportunities. Yet PVF-CAND’s defense, led by an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Sy Huy, stood firm to preserve the draw.

The result lifted PVF-CAND to 18 points and temporarily moved them off the bottom of the V.League 1 table. Meanwhile, The Cong Viettel remain second with 50 points, with coach Velizar Popov’s side maintaining their position in the standings.

PVF-CAND only gained promotion to V.League 1 this season after taking the competition slot left vacant by Quang Nam FC. Since then, they have been locked in a fierce relegation battle with Da Nang FC, with the two sides constantly swapping places near the bottom of the table.

In the same round, Da Nang are set to face Hai Phong FC on May 23. Although Hai Phong no longer have major objectives this season, their recent 4-2 victory over Becamex Binh Duong suggests they will remain highly competitive — something Da Nang will certainly be wary of.
