Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Vietnam’s training session on June 23, the 33-year-old shot-stopper expressed his excitement after officially joining the national team camp under head coach Kim Sang-sik. The session marked not only Vietnam’s first training day following their gathering in Hanoi, but also Patrik Le Giang’s first-ever appearance in national team colors.
Born to a Vietnamese father and a Slovak mother, Patrik Le Giang has been one of the standout goalkeepers in the V.League in recent seasons. After obtaining Vietnamese citizenship earlier this year, he fulfilled a long-held ambition by earning his first call-up to the national team.

“This is an incredibly happy moment for me,” Patrik said. “I would like to thank my club, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC, the Vietnam Football Federation, my family, and all the fans who have supported me throughout my journey and helped make this dream come true.”
The experienced goalkeeper also praised the atmosphere within the squad, revealing that he received a warm welcome from both teammates and coaching staff upon his arrival.
“The environment in the national team is fantastic. My teammates have welcomed me warmly from the very first day. I already feel at home here, and I’m grateful for the support and kindness everyone has shown me,” he added.
Patrik emphasized that he is ready to compete for a place in Kim Sang-sik’s starting lineup and is fully committed to contributing to the team’s success.
Looking ahead to Vietnam’s preparations for the 2026 ASEAN Cup, the goalkeeper noted that the squad remains in good condition despite a few minor injury concerns.
“Some players are dealing with small injuries, but they are recovering well. We understand how important the upcoming training camp in South Korea will be for our preparations. Everyone is working hard and staying focused to ensure we are ready for the tournament,” he said.
Patrik concluded by reaffirming his dedication to representing the country.
“I will always give my absolute best for the Vietnam national team and for the Vietnamese fans,” he stated.
