Quang Hai highlights challenges facing Vietnam ahead of ASEAN Cup 2026

Hanoi, 24 June 2026 – Vietnam national team captain Nguyen Quang Hai has acknowledged the challenges facing the national team as preparations continue for the 2026 ASEAN Cup, with extreme weather conditions posing one of the biggest obstacles during the current training camp.

On June 24, Vietnam completed its second training session since assembling for the tournament. Due to intense summer temperatures in Hanoi, head coach Kim Sang Sik and his staff adjusted the training schedule to help players cope with the heat and reduce the risk of fatigue.

Speaking after the session, Quang Hai admitted that the weather has made training more demanding for the squad.

“The peak summer heat makes everyone feel tired and affects our physical condition. However, we will do our best to adapt and overcome these difficulties in order to complete the training program effectively,” he said.

This training camp has also welcomed three notable newcomers, including naturalized forward Nguyen Tai Loc (Geovane) and overseas Vietnamese players Patrik Le Giang and Khoa Ngo.

Quang Hai praised the professionalism shown by the new arrivals and emphasized the importance of helping them settle into the national team environment.

“All of the newcomers have displayed great professionalism. Representing the national team comes with pressure, and that applies to them as well. The senior players will do everything possible to support them so that together we can build the strongest team possible,” he explained.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup taking place during Vietnam’s training camp, Quang Hai revealed that players have been following selected matches whenever their schedules allow. He added that the squad regularly discusses games and individual performances as they seek to learn from some of the world’s top players competing on football’s biggest stage.

Vietnam will continue training in Hanoi from June 23 to July 1 before heading to South Korea for an overseas training camp from July 2 to July 14. Kim Sang Sik’s side will then face Myanmar in an international friendly on July 17 before beginning their campaign to defend the ASEAN Cup title later this year.
