Golden Star Warrior key defender misses training session

Hanoi, 25 June 2026 – Vietnam national football team encountered another setback during its preparations for the 2026 ASEAN Cup, as an additional player was forced to miss training on June 24.

During the previous session, three players – Ngo Dang Khoa, Le Ngoc Bao, and Do Duy Manh – were unable to train due to minor fitness concerns. The situation continued in the team’s latest workout, with centre-back Bui Hoang Viet Anh joining the list of absentees.

Viet Anh’s absence initially sparked concern among supporters and the coaching staff, given his importance to the national team’s defensive setup. The 27-year-old has established himself as one of Vietnam’s most reliable defenders, known for his strong tackling, aerial ability, and experience at both club and international level.

Fortunately, the injury does not appear to be serious. According to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Viet Anh sustained only a minor knock and was rested as a precaution. The team’s medical staff are closely monitoring his condition, and he could return to full training as soon as the next session if his recovery progresses positively.

Despite several players being sidelined, the overall mood within the squad remains upbeat. The available players completed the coaching staff’s training program without major issues, focusing on physical conditioning, tactical drills, and improving coordination ahead of the upcoming tournament.

The national team continues to benefit from strong support from the VFF throughout its training camp. Players are being provided with high-quality facilities, accommodation, nutrition plans, and recovery services to ensure they remain in peak condition during the build-up to the 2026 ASEAN Cup.

With the tournament approaching, Vietnam will be hoping for a swift recovery for all injured players. Having a full-strength squad available will be crucial as the team looks to mount a serious challenge for the regional title.
