Hanoi, 1 August 2026 – Vietnam women’s volleyball team came from a set down to defeat Indonesia 3-1 on Friday evening in their second match of Leg 1 of the SEA V.Cup 2026, earning a place in a decisive championship showdown against Thailand.
Facing an Indonesian side that had troubled them during the AVC Cup in June, head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet opted for a strong starting lineup packed with experienced players in a bid to avoid another difficult encounter.
Despite that, Vietnam endured a sluggish start. Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates struggled to find their attacking rhythm, with a series of inaccurate spikes preventing them from putting points on the board consistently.
Indonesia capitalized on Vietnam’s slow opening, playing with confidence and building momentum through the middle stages of the first set. At one point, the hosts opened up a commanding 22-14 lead. Although Vietnam mounted a late comeback, they could only reduce the deficit before losing the set 25-20.
After dropping the opener, Vietnam regrouped impressively. Nguyen Tuan Kiet’s players tightened their defense, minimized unforced errors, and made the most of every attacking opportunity. The tactical adjustments paid off immediately as Vietnam dominated the second set from start to finish, cruising to a convincing 25-15 victory to level the match.
Vietnam maintained that momentum throughout the remaining two sets. While the coaching staff rotated several younger players into the lineup, the team continued to control the match with disciplined defense and efficient attacking.
Indonesia produced several spirited rallies, but standout performances from Nhu Quynh, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Bich Thuy, and their teammates ensured Vietnam remained in command. The defending champions claimed the third set 25-19 before sealing the fourth 25-20 to complete an impressive 3-1 comeback victory.
The result sets up a highly anticipated clash with Thailand on Saturday. With both teams in strong form, the winner of the match will be crowned SEA V.Cup 2026 Leg 1 champions, making it one of the tournament’s biggest encounters.
