Taipei, 2 August 2026 – Vietnam’s top women’s singles shuttler Nguyen Thuy Linh fell just short of claiming her long-awaited first BWF World Tour Super 300 title, settling for the runner-up finish after losing to India’s Tanvi Sharma in the women’s singles final of the Taipei Open 2026 on Saturday.
The championship match marked Thuy Linh’s first international final of the year, and the Vietnamese star entered the contest with confidence and determination after an impressive run through the tournament.
Thuy Linh made a promising start, showing excellent composure and tactical awareness in the opening game. She consistently targeted Sharma’s weaknesses with well-placed smashes and intelligent shot selection, resulting in a closely contested battle between the two finalists.
The Vietnamese shuttler stayed level with her Indian opponent for much of the first game and at one stage looked capable of taking the opener. However, Sharma produced a strong finish during the crucial closing points to claim the first game 21-16.
The second game followed a similar pattern, with Thuy Linh continuing to fight hard and searching for opportunities to level the match. Despite another determined display, she was unable to capitalize during the decisive moments as Sharma once again held her nerve to secure a 21-16 victory.
After losing 0-2 (16-21, 16-21), Thuy Linh had to settle for the women’s singles runner-up title at the Taipei Open 2026, a BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament.
Although she narrowly missed out on the championship, reaching the final represents one of Thuy Linh’s strongest performances of the season and is expected to provide a valuable boost to her BWF World Ranking.
There will be little time for recovery, however, as the Vietnamese star immediately turns her attention to the 2026 Korea Masters, scheduled from August 4 to August 8. She will be joined by fellow Vietnamese players Nguyen Hai Dang, Vu Thi Trang, Nguyen Dinh Hoang, and Tran Dinh Manh as Vietnam continues its international badminton campaign.
