Hanoi, 1 Sep 2026 – Golden Star Warriors midfielder Nguyen Hai Long has been named among five nominees for the Most Energetic Player award at the ASEAN Cup 2026, following his impressive contribution to the Golden Star Warriors’ successful title defence.
According to the tournament organisers, the five nominees represent Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Myanmar, with each player recognised for standout performances and their impact during the competition.
Hai Long earned particular praise for his display in Vietnam’s 3-0 victory over Indonesia in Bogor on August 3.
Operating on the left flank, the 2000-born midfielder repeatedly troubled the Indonesian defence with his pace, intelligent movement and direct attacking style.
Hai Long played an important role in Vietnam’s opening goal, accelerating down the wing before delivering a dangerous low cross that allowed Nguyen Van Vi to complete the move.
Just eight minutes later, Hai Long went from provider to scorer.
Collecting possession inside Vietnam’s own half, the midfielder launched a rapid counterattack and drove forward through the Indonesian defence before finishing past goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata to double Vietnam’s advantage.
His high-energy performance proved instrumental as Kim Sang-sik’s side went on to secure a convincing 3-0 victory.
The result strengthened Vietnam’s position in the race for the semifinals and also marked the first time the Golden Star Warriors had defeated Indonesia away from home in the tournament.
Hai Long subsequently continued to make his mark as Vietnam successfully defended their ASEAN Cup crown, including scoring the opening goal in the 2-0 first-leg victory over Thailand in the final at Rajamangala Stadium.
Five Players Compete for Award
Alongside Hai Long, the shortlist features Thailand duo Kakana Khamyok and Teerasak Poeiphimai, Malaysia midfielder Wan Kuzain and Myanmar star Maung Maung Lwin.
Kakana scored twice and provided an assist as Thailand cruised to a 5-0 victory over Laos, while Wan Kuzain played an important role in Malaysia’s 1-0 win over the Philippines that secured their place in the semifinals.
Teerasak strengthened his case with a brace in Thailand’s 3-1 first-leg semifinal victory over Singapore, while Maung Maung Lwin contributed an assist as Myanmar defeated the Philippines 4-1.
The ASEAN Cup 2026 Most Energetic Player award is designed to recognise a player who combines strong performances with exceptional work rate, fighting spirit and energy on the pitch.
Hai Long’s inclusion among the five nominees provides further recognition of the midfielder’s influential performances during Vietnam’s historic run to a second consecutive ASEAN Cup title.
