Tien Linh and Le Giang Patrik delivered standout performances as Ho Chi Minh City Police FC opened their 2026/27 V.League 1 campaign with an impressive 3-1 victory over Hanoi FC at Binh Duong Stadium on September 5.
Despite playing away from home, Hanoi FC made a confident start and controlled much of the opening stages. However, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC gradually settled into the contest and began creating the more dangerous opportunities.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the 27th minute through Tien Linh. From a well-delivered cross from the right by Tran Leen – Minh Quang, the Vietnam international produced an excellent diving header that sailed over goalkeeper Van Chuan and into the net to give his side a 1-0 lead.
Hanoi FC responded by increasing the tempo and pushing more players forward in search of an equaliser. However, the home side remained disciplined at the back, with Le Giang Patrik providing a reliable presence in goal to preserve the advantage until half-time.
Hanoi continued to apply pressure after the restart, but they were caught out again in the 52nd minute.
After receiving a pass outside the penalty area, Quoc Cuong decided to try his luck from distance. His powerful strike flew beyond the reach of Van Chuan to double Ho Chi Minh City Police FC’s advantage.
The visitors finally found a way back into the match in the 64th minute when new striker Andrew Jung pulled one back to make it 2-1.
However, Hanoi’s hopes of completing a comeback were eventually ended by Jason Cummings. The Australian striker produced another long-range finish to beat Van Chuan and restore the hosts’ two-goal cushion.
Ho Chi Minh City Police FC successfully protected their advantage for the remainder of the match, sealing a convincing 3-1 victory and collecting their first three points of the 2026/27 V.League 1 season.
For Hanoi FC, meanwhile, the defeat represented a disappointing start to the new campaign despite periods of sustained pressure and attacking possession.
