Suzhou, 5 Sep 2026 – Vietnam women’s national team secured a 1-0 victory over Jiangsu Women’s FC in a friendly in Suzhou, China, on September 5 as part of their preparations for ASIAD 2026.
Hai Yen’s 14th-minute goal proved decisive as head coach Hoang Van Phuc and his players recorded a positive result during their pre-tournament training camp in China.
The friendly against Jiangsu was one of Vietnam’s key tests ahead of the Asian Games. For the opening 60 minutes, the coaching staff largely maintained the same lineup to assess the team’s tactical organisation and coordination between different positions before introducing a series of changes later in the match.
Vietnam made a positive start and quickly found the breakthrough.
In the 14th minute, Hai Yen opened the scoring to put Vietnam 1-0 ahead, with her strike ultimately proving to be the only goal of the contest.
The remainder of the first half was relatively balanced. Vietnam maintained a compact shape, defended with discipline and looked to exploit opportunities through quick transitions from defence to attack.
Hoang Van Phuc then used the second half to give more members of his squad valuable playing time.
Between the 61st and 87th minutes, Thu Phuong, Truc Huong, Vu Thi Hoa, Ngoc Minh Chuyen, Hoang Loan, Tuyet Ngan, Luu Hoang Van, Vu Minh Hoa, Nhat Lan and Thuy Hang were all introduced as the coaching staff experimented with different personnel and combinations.
Despite the numerous substitutions, Vietnam remained organised during the closing stages and successfully protected their narrow advantage to complete a 1-0 victory.
Jiangsu Women’s FC head coach Miguel Santos was impressed by Vietnam’s performance, particularly their defensive organisation and ability to transition quickly into attack.
“I think the Vietnam women’s national team has very good potential. I could see that they are very well organised defensively, while their transitions from defence to attack and their counterattacking ability are also very effective. I believe the tactical ideas of Vietnam’s head coach were implemented very well,” Santos said.
The Jiangsu coach also suggested that Vietnam could make further progress in their attacking play, particularly in terms of controlling possession and using the ball more effectively to create space and generate scoring opportunities.
The victory provides another positive step in Vietnam’s preparations for ASIAD 2026, with the team using its training camp in Suzhou to fine-tune both fitness and tactical plans before travelling to Japan.
Hoang Van Phuc’s side will face a significantly tougher test on September 9, when they take on the China women’s national team in another friendly in Suzhou.
The match will provide Vietnam with another important opportunity to assess their progress before beginning their ASIAD 2026 campaign.
