Coach Troussier writes an apology letter to Vietnamese fans

On his personal Facebook, Coach Troussier wrote an apology letter to Vietnamese football fans.

On April 4th, Coach Troussier left Vietnam, officially ending his tenure as the head coach of the Vietnam national team that lasted more than a year. During this time, the French coach did not succeed as he and both the Vietnam national team and U23 Vietnam team suffered defeats in major tournaments. After returning to his homeland in France, Coach Troussier wrote an apology letter to Vietnamese football fans on his personal Facebook page.

The 69-year-old coach wrote: “Dear friends, I write these lines with gratitude and humility as I look back on what we have gone through during my time leading the Vietnam national team.

The journey we had was truly filled with many obstacles and challenges, but I always believed in the potential of Vietnamese football with the resilience of the players. Throughout the past year of working daily with the players, I have always been impressed by their discipline and team spirit.

From the first day I arrived in Vietnam to the last day when I left, the tireless efforts of the players have become the most important strength of the team, and I am very happy to have worked with such talented individuals.

Throughout this journey, I feel heavy-hearted to admit that the Vietnam national team faced defeats in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers. As the head coach, I take full responsibility for these results.

To the passionate fans of Vietnamese football, I send my sincerest thanks and apologies. Your relentless enthusiasm has been an inspiration for the Vietnam national team. I am extremely grateful for your encouragement even in moments of dissatisfaction.

I send my warmest greetings and best wishes to everyone who has been part of this journey. It was an honor and a privilege for me. I will always be thankful for the opportunity to work and contribute in Vietnam.”

Currently, VFF has announced Coach Hoang Anh Tuan as the successor to Coach Troussier in leading the U23 Vietnam team, while the head coach for the Vietnam national team has yet to be determined.
