The seventh Olympic 2024 ticket for Vietnam goes to Nguyen Thuy Linh

Nguyen Thuy Linh, Vietnam’s premier badminton player, has officially secured her spot at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, marking her as the seventh Vietnamese athlete to qualify.

Linh concluded the Olympic qualification round with 48,350 points, ranking 17th out of 35 competitors. This achievement places her in Group 2 for the initial stage of the Paris Games, ensuring her second consecutive appearance at the Olympics following her participation in Tokyo 2020.

As the qualification rounds wrapped up following the continental championships, only Linh and swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang have consistently maintained their form over the past four years. Meanwhile, the other five Olympic slots for Vietnam have been claimed by newcomers: Nguyen Thi That in cycling, Trinh Thu Vinh and Le Thi Mong Tuyen in shooting, Vo Thi Kim Anh in boxing, and Trịnh Văn Vinh in weightlifting.

The “Road to Paris” campaign saw Linh and other top badminton players competing intensely in the final stages of the qualification process. With only two Future Series tournaments remaining, offering a modest 1,400 points each until April 28, changes to the top 35 Olympic rankings are expected to be minimal.

Fans of Vietnamese sports eagerly await the update on the men’s singles Olympic spot, set to be announced on April 30 by the Vietnam Sports page. As preparations continue, Linh’s qualification not only highlights her exceptional skill and dedication but also sets the stage for a promising performance at Paris 2024, inspiring a new generation of athletes in Vietnam.
