Khuat Van Khang, the rising star of U23 Vietnam, recently shared a surprising insight into the stunning free-kick goal he scored against U23 Malaysia, which secured his team a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup.
In a match that ended with a 2-0 victory for U23 Vietnam, Khuat Van Khang’s exceptional free-kick was a standout moment. Reflecting on this crucial goal, Khang revealed that the success of his strike was not just a matter of chance but the result of deliberate preparation and a tactical tip from his teammate Quan Van Chuan.
“After a team meeting, Chuan told me to watch the goalkeeper’s movement,” Khang shared. “He mentioned that the goalkeeper tends to move slightly in one direction when I run up to take the shot. Chuan advised me to aim for the opposite corner if I noticed the goalkeeper cheating towards the near post. His advice was invaluable, and thankfully, it paid off with that goal.”
Looking forward to the quarterfinal match against U23 Iraq, Khang expressed respect for the West Asian teams, known for their physicality and stamina. “Teams from West Asia are always tough opponents. Their strength lies in their physical presence and fitness. To pull off a surprise against U23 Iraq, we need to be thoroughly prepared and fight with the highest determination,” Khang added.
U23 Vietnam’s preparations for the upcoming quarterfinal against U23 Iraq include a focus on tactical training and team selection. The team is scheduled to train later today (April 25) to finalize their strategy and lineup for the crucial match, which will take place at 12:30 AM on April 27, Vietnam time.
