League leaders Thai Son Nam HCMC have announced the signing of Brazilian futsal player Dos Santos Mathueus Lucas, known as Catatau, ahead of the National Futsal Championship 2024. Catatau, born in 1998, plays as a Fixo (defensive position), filling a crucial gap left by former national player Tran Van Vu, who retired in September 2023.
In recent matches, head coach Nguyen Tuan Anh has rotated players like Nguyen Manh Dung, Nhan Gia Hung, Pham Duc Hoa, and Nguyen Anh Duy in the Fixo position. Catatau’s arrival is expected to strengthen the defensive line of the HCMC-based team.
According to SGGPO, Thai Son Nam HCMC had registered Catatau for the National Futsal Championship 2024 from the start. However, due to various issues, the Brazilian player missed the first three rounds of the season. During this time, Catatau has been actively training with his new teammates and will make his debut in round 4 when Thai Son Nam HCMC faces Ha Long at Tan Binh Sports Hall (HCMC).
Catatau’s career has largely been tied to his homeland, Brazil. He also spent time playing for Corinthians, one of Brazil’s most prestigious and successful futsal clubs, starting in early 2018. The 26-year-old Fixo is known for his high technical skill level, a testament to the artistic flair common among street players in Brazil.
This signing marks the first time in seven years that Thai Son Nam HCMC has brought in a foreign player for the Fixo position. The last time the club registered a foreign Fixo was when Lukaian Baptista helped them secure a bronze medal at the AFC Futsal Club Championship in 2017.
With Catatau’s addition, Thai Son Nam HCMC aims to solidify their defense and maintain their top position in the National Futsal Championship 2024. The fans and team alike look forward to seeing how his skills and experience will contribute to their campaign.
