Hanoi, 3 August 2026 – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has officially confirmed that the AFC Futsal Club Championship will return in 2027, ending an eight-year hiatus. Alongside the announcement, the AFC also unveiled the competition’s qualification criteria and tournament regulations.
Under the newly released format, the revived tournament will feature eight national club champions representing the countries whose national teams reach the quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup. Vietnam is among the eligible nations, ensuring the country’s return to Asia’s premier club futsal competition.
In addition to the quarterfinal qualification requirement, the AFC has established several administrative and licensing criteria for participating clubs. Vietnam is expected to meet all of these requirements, meaning the country is guaranteed a place in the 2027 edition of the tournament.
If there are no changes to the qualification process, Thai Son Bac—the champions of the 2026 HDBank National Futsal Championship—will represent Vietnam at the continental event.
The AFC first launched the Asian Futsal Club Championship in 2010, with Vietnamese clubs making their debut two years later in 2012. The competition was held annually until 2019 before being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among Vietnamese clubs, Thai Son Nam remain the country’s most successful representative in the tournament’s history. The club finished runners-up once and claimed third place on three occasions, establishing itself as one of Asia’s traditional futsal powerhouses.
The return of the AFC Futsal Club Championship provides Vietnamese clubs with another opportunity to compete against the continent’s elite while further raising the profile of domestic futsal. It also reflects the continued growth of Vietnamese futsal following the national team’s consistent performances at both the Asian and world levels.
The AFC is expected to announce the host nation, competition schedule, and official dates for the 2027 AFC Futsal Club Championship at a later stage.
