VFF has officially announced the implementation of VAR technology for two matches in the finals of the 2024 national second division tournament.
VAR, known for its advanced technology, assists the main referee by reviewing controversial situations on video screens. This technology has been successfully applied in many major tournaments worldwide and has been used in the Vietnamese National League (V.League) since the 2023/24 season, with nearly 70 matches utilizing VAR so far.
However, this will be the first time VAR is applied in the National Second Division, specifically for the two final matches. This decision is seen as a significant step forward in enhancing refereeing quality and ensuring fairness and impartiality in matches. The application is not limited to professional leagues but extends to important matches in non-professional leagues and youth tournaments, such as finals and promotion-deciding matches.
According to the tournament organizers, the implementation of VAR in the 2024 National Second Division finals has received approval from FIFA, adhering to strict technical standards for VAR application. With the support of Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) and cooperation from The World company, which broadcasts the National Second Division, the implementation of VAR is being rapidly completed at Ha Tinh Stadium, the venue for the finals.
At least eight cameras with standard angles will be installed at Ha Tinh Stadium to support VAR for the two matches. The organizers plan to conduct a test run of the VAR vehicle and the OB color vehicle tomorrow morning (June 17), simulating a real match and fully testing the video signal connection between the VAR vehicle and the OB color vehicle to minimize any potential issues during the official matches.
According to the schedule, the first match of the 2024 National Second Division finals between Bac Ninh FC and SHB Da Nang Youth FC will take place at 4:00 PM on June 17, 2024. The second match, between Dinh Huong Phu Nhuan FC and Kon Tum FC, will follow at 7:00 PM.
The winners of these two matches will earn promotion to the National First Division for the 2024/25 season.
