On the afternoon of August 2nd, Trinh Thu Vinh showcased an impressive performance in the women’s 25m sports pistol qualification at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Scoring 587 points, she secured fourth place and a spot in the final. Her outstanding efforts have not only won her a place in the finals but also immediate financial rewards from Vietnamese shooting officials and supporters.
Financial Rewards for Outstanding Performance
In recognition of her remarkable achievement, Do Van Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Shooting Federation, promptly awarded Trinh Thu Vinh a hot bonus of 100 million VND (approximately 4,300 USD). This immediate reward underscores the significance of her accomplishment in reaching the finals of a highly competitive Olympic event.
Additionally, former head coach of the Vietnamese shooting team, Nguyen Thi Nhung, had pledged a reward of 1,000 USD for each event in which a Vietnamese shooter reaches the final at the 2024 Olympics. With Trinh Thu Vinh making it to the finals in two different events, she is set to receive a total of 2,000 USD (nearly 50 million VND) from this pledge.
Journey to the Final
After finishing fourth in the 10m air pistol final, Trinh Thu Vinh continued to impress in the 25m sports pistol qualification round. This event, not her specialty, posed a significant challenge. Despite this, her exceptional performance in both the precision and rapid-fire stages secured her a spot in the final.
In the precision stage, Trinh Thu Vinh scored 290 points from three series (each consisting of 10 shots), placing her seventh among the 40 competitors. It was in the rapid-fire stage where she truly excelled, scoring an impressive 297 points out of a possible 300. This included 15 consecutive 10-point shots, showcasing her remarkable accuracy and composure under pressure. Her total score of 587 points, with 25 bullseyes, placed her fourth overall.

The final, scheduled for 2:30 PM on August 3rd, will see Trinh Thu Vinh competing against top shooters from around the world. Her competitors include familiar names like Veronika Major and Manu Bhaker, both of whom have previously competed against her in the 10m air pistol final. Notably, reigning world champion and record holder Kim Ye-jin from South Korea failed to qualify for the final, removing one formidable opponent from the competition.
