Vietnam women’s national team trains in Europe with the goal of returning to the World Cup

Starting from August 18, 2024, the Vietnam women’s national football team, led by Coach Mai Duc Chung, will regroup to assess and prepare the squad after a long period without activity. This training camp marks the return of Nguyen Thi Van (Than KSVN), who has recovered from her injury after a period of treatment and rehabilitation.

In this training camp, Coach Mai Duc Chung has also decided to give opportunities to several young players who have shown promising performances in the 2023 and 2024 national championships, as well as in international youth competitions.

Among the young players called up this time are Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh (Ho Chi Minh City 1), Luu Nhu Quynh (Thai Nguyen T&T), and Ta Thi Thuy (Ha Nam). Notably, forward Huynh Nhu will also join the camp after completing her two-year stint with Lank FC in Portugal.

The training camp will be divided into two phases: Phase 1 will take place from August 18 to September 1 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center in Hanoi. Starting September 1, the team will embark on a training camp in the Czech Republic until September 15. This camp is seen as the first step in Vietnam women’s football’s ambition to compete for a spot in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

This period of preparation is crucial for the team as they aim to build a strong foundation for future competitions, particularly with the goal of qualifying for the Women’s World Cup in 2027. The return of experienced players like Nguyen Thi Van and Huynh Nhu, along with the integration of young talents, signals a strategic approach by Coach Mai Duc Chung to strengthen the team’s capabilities on the international stage.
