Vietnam volleyball is about to make history in the Asian tournament

Vietnam volleyball is set to make history as, for the first time, two clubs will represent the nation in the 2024 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship. The prestigious tournament will take place from September 22 to 29 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Initially, the competition was expected to feature 12 teams, with Vietnam having just one representative, Ninh Binh Club. However, following the recent draw, the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) confirmed that several teams had withdrawn from the tournament. As a result, the organizers extended invitations to additional clubs to maintain a competitive field of eight teams. Among the clubs invited was Hoa Chat Duc Giang, the 2023 runners-up of the Vietnam National Women’s Volleyball Championship. This invitation marks the first time in history that Vietnam will have two representatives in the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship.

In the draw results, Hoa Chat Duc Giang was placed in Group A alongside host club Nakhon Ratchasima (Thailand), Kuanysh (Kazakhstan), and Kwai Tsing (Hong Kong, China). Meanwhile, Ninh Binh is in Group B, facing tough competition from NEC (Japan), Saipa (Iran), and Sky Risers (Philippines).

This year, the top two teams from the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship will qualify for the World Club Championship in December. Last year, the Vietnamese national team, competing under the name Sport Center 1, made history by winning the Asian Club Championship for the first time, earning a spot in the World Club Championship.

Vietnam’s participation with two clubs in this prestigious tournament marks a significant milestone in the development of women’s volleyball in the country. It reflects the growing strength of Vietnamese clubs on the continental stage and highlights the increasing competitiveness of the sport domestically.

With both Ninh Binh and Hoa Chat Duc Giang aiming to make their mark in the tournament, Vietnamese volleyball fans have much to look forward to as they support their teams in this historic event. The tournament also presents a valuable opportunity for the players to gain experience against some of the best clubs in Asia, further contributing to the growth of volleyball in Vietnam.
