In a recent interview ahead of the 2024-2025 V-League season, Hanoi FC Chairman Do Vinh Quang expressed the club’s ambition to reclaim the league title after two disappointing seasons. Despite challenges posed by player changes, Vinh Quang reaffirmed the club’s unwavering goal of becoming champions.
The Hanoi FC DNA: Aiming for Titles
“Our goal is to win every domestic competition. This has been the DNA of Hanoi FC for years. Of course, achieving this depends on many factors, but the objective remains unchanged,” Vinh Quang said.
The club has taken a bold step by appointing Le Duc Tuan as head coach after years of experimenting with foreign coaches. “After trying out foreign coaches, we’ve decided to return to a local coach. Le Duc Tuan was selected, and while some may have doubts, we believe he’s the right fit to lead the team to higher goals,” Vinh Quang explained.
Faith in Le Duc Tuan’s Leadership
Though Le Duc Tuan is relatively new to the managerial scene, Vinh Quang highlighted that Tuan has been with Hanoi FC for a long time and understands the club’s dynamics. “We prioritize finding the right coach rather than someone with a prestigious CV. Tuan is familiar with the team and holds the necessary qualifications,” Vinh Quang stated.
Reflecting on past experiences, Vinh Quang compared Tuan’s appointment to the failed stint of Pham Minh Duc in 2016 but pointed out key differences. “Tuan has been with the first team for a long time, unlike Pham Minh Duc, who didn’t have enough time to acclimate. This makes a big difference.”
Vinh Quang also noted that young coaches worldwide have shown great potential, emphasizing that Hanoi FC trusts Tuan’s capability to succeed. “We’ll be by his side throughout this difficult season, and I believe Tuan will lead us to good results,” he said.
Youth Development a Priority
Hanoi FC’s strategy has shifted towards nurturing young talent rather than focusing solely on star signings. “I inherited a strategic approach from the club, which prioritizes youth development. This year, we’ve won the U17 and U19 national championships, providing a rich pool of talent for the first team,” Vinh Quang shared.
Despite this focus on youth, the club remains active in the transfer market, targeting young, promising players who fit the team’s playing style and character. “We’re working to create a balanced and cohesive squad, combining young talents and experienced players,” Vinh Quang added.
The Impact of Foreign Players
Last season, Hanoi FC struggled in the AFC Champions League, partly due to the late arrival of foreign players. This year, the club has made efforts to secure their foreign signings earlier. “We’ve got three foreign players in place for pre-season. I’m confident they’ll share the responsibility with the domestic players and help us achieve our goals,” Vinh Quang said, expressing optimism for the season ahead.
Commitment to Ball Control and Attractive Football
Despite the departure of several key players, Hanoi FC remains committed to their philosophy of controlling the game and playing attractive football. “Our tactical system and philosophy are consistent, from the youth teams to the first team. When young players step up, they adapt quickly. Our veterans also play a key role in helping them integrate,” Vinh Quang stated.
The team aims to continue their signature style of possession-based football, combining young talents, experienced players, and foreign imports to dominate matches.
Strong Competition Ahead
When asked about their biggest rivals, Vinh Quang mentioned Hanoi Police FC and Nam Dinh FC, the two most recent V-League champions, as well as Becamex Binh Duong and Viettel. “This season will be tough, but Hanoi FC will strive to show our strength at the right time,” he concluded.
Embracing Overseas Vietnamese Talent
Hanoi FC has also embraced the growing trend of recruiting overseas Vietnamese players. After signing Ryan Ha last season, the club has added Kyle Colonna to their ranks this year. “I fully support the VFF and VPF’s decision to allow two slots for players of Vietnamese descent. This opens the door for many talented overseas Vietnamese players to return home and contribute to the V-League,” Vinh Quang said.
He believes that the inclusion of these players will strengthen the squad and provide valuable depth, while also aligning with Hanoi FC’s culture and playing philosophy.
With high expectations for the new season, Hanoi FC is determined to reclaim their place at the top of Vietnamese football while continuing their long-term commitment to youth development and sustainable success.
