VAR schedule for the first round of V.League 1 – 2024/2025

The latest update on the implementation of VAR for Round 1 of the 2024/2025 V-League season confirms that six out of seven matches will feature the technology. The reason for this partial application is due to the scheduling of two matches at the same time on the opening day of the new season.

The match between Hong Linh Ha Tinh and Thep Xanh Nam Dinh, set for 5:00 PM on September 14, 2024, will be the only game in Round 1 without VAR. This clash coincides with the match between Dong A Thanh Hoa and Becamex Binh Duong, which will also be held at 5:00 PM, leading to the decision to prioritize the use of VAR in only one of these fixtures.

In late August 2024, VPF received two additional VAR-equipped vehicles from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). Starting from the 2024/2025 V-League season, VPF will have four VAR trucks operational across three geographical regions, maximizing the number of matches that can feature VAR each round.

As of now, Vietnam has a total of 30 certified VAR referees and assistant VAR referees (AVAR) accredited by FIFA. The operation of VAR in the country is also under strict supervision by FIFA to ensure compliance with international standards.

VPF aims to apply VAR to all matches in future V-League seasons. This initiative is seen as a critical step in minimizing controversial decisions, enhancing fairness, and improving the quality of the league. By gradually expanding the use of VAR, the league hopes to ensure greater transparency and justice in every match.
