Quang Ninh FC is making a comeback in the Vietnamese football scene by competing in the National Third Division, with the ambitious goal of quickly returning to the top-tier V-League.
The last time Quang Ninh FC appeared in Vietnamese football was in 2021. Due to financial difficulties, the club was dissolved in October 2021. After a three-year absence, on July 1, 2024, Quảng Ninh Football Development Joint Stock Company was established, headquartered in Ha Long City, and the new team, Quang Ninh FC, was formed to represent Quang Ninh province in the National Third Division.
This comeback is a result of collective efforts from various sectors, including local authorities and businesses, aimed at bringing Quang Ninh football back to prominence and ultimately returning to the V-League.
Nguyen Van Dan, head coach of Quang Ninh FC, stated, “Our immediate focus is on each match, striving for the best results possible to achieve our goal of promotion to the National Second Division. While we have experienced players, we still face challenges such as the schedule and weather, especially when matches are played in the midday heat. However, with teamwork, we hope to achieve great success.”
The return of Quang Ninh FC has been eagerly anticipated by local football fans, and the team is highly motivated to meet its ambitious target of three promotions in two years. Notably, the team boasts many players with strong local ties who have played for the former Than Quang Ninh, such as Kieu Minh Duc, Le Tuan Tu, Dao Nhat Minh, and Bui Van Hieu.
Midfielder Bui Van Hieu expressed his determination: “Everyone in the team is committed to achieving the promotion goal set by the management. I, along with the rest of the team, will strive to win each match to fulfill this objective.”
The 2024 National Third Division consists of 16 teams, all vying for five promotion spots to the National Second Division in 2025. The tournament will take place from October 24 to November 11, 2024, with Group A held in Hanoi and Hung Yen, and Group B in Ba Ria – Vung Tau.
