
After more than a decade of waiting and relentless efforts, the Vietnamese Taekwondo Poomsae team, comprising athletes Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, and Lien Thi Tuyet Mai, secured a gold medal in the women’s team standard poomsae category for the championship age group at the 2024 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships held in Hong Kong.
This historic victory marks the first gold medal in this category for the Vietnamese Taekwondo Poomsae team in over ten years. The achievement not only reaffirms Vietnam’s Taekwondo prowess on the international stage but also stands as a testament to the perseverance, unity, and aspirations for excellence of these golden girls.
In the final round, the Vietnamese athletes delivered a synchronized, powerful, and precise performance, surpassing strong competitors from South Korea, Brazil, and the United Kingdom. The team received outstanding scores from the judges, accompanied by enthusiastic cheers from the audience and praise from experts.
Speaking to the media after the victory, athlete Chau Tuyet Van emotionally shared: “At this moment, our emotions are overwhelming because it has been more than 10 years since my teammates and I last won a gold medal in this category. Personally, I feel incredibly proud and happy. I want to thank Coach Nguyen Thanh Huy, my two teammates Le Kim and Tuyet Mai, and the fans who have always supported Vietnamese Taekwondo.”
Nguyen Thi Le Kim, a veteran athlete, expressed: “Over the past decade, we have been continuously improving every single day. This success is the result of persistent effort and passion for Taekwondo. It has been a long journey filled with challenges, but we have always believed in one another and the support from our fans. This gold medal is our tribute to everyone who has been by our side.”
Meanwhile, Lien Thi Tuyet Mai emphasized the importance of unity: “We are not just teammates; we are family. It is the understanding and support among us that have enabled us to achieve today’s success.”
