Coach Kim Sang-sik praised Quang Hai, the player who scored the only goal to help Vietnam defeat Indonesia in the third match of Group B at the ASEAN Cup 2024.
Speaking to the media after the win over Indonesia, coach Kim Sang-sik said: “In our previous matches with Indonesia, we didn’t achieve the best results. But in this match, I am satisfied, and even more pleased that no players suffered injuries.”
“Indonesia played deep, which made attacking in the first half difficult. However, the players put in a lot of effort and scored a goal to secure the victory. If I had to choose the best player, I would choose Quang Hai, as he led the team very well in his role as captain.”
In the match against Indonesia, Vietnam faced numerous challenges and only secured the victory with a late goal from Quang Hai, but coach Kim Sang-sik wasn’t concerned about that. He said: “I think we all hoped for a goal. In football, every goal is very important. Quang Hai managed to do that and brought home three valuable points for the team.”
With the busy fixture schedule in the ASEAN Cup 2024, coach Kim Sang-sik acknowledged: “All teams face a packed schedule, and this will undoubtedly affect the players’ health. The coaching staff and players fully understand and agree on this matter. As I’ve said, all teams face the same challenges. We will adjust to ensure the players are in the best condition, ready for the upcoming matches.”
Joining the press conference with coach Kim, midfielder Quang Hai, who was named the best player of the match, shared: “Scoring a goal feels very special, and even more so when it is for the national team. The Viet Tri Stadium felt like a festival today.”
“After more than a year, I feel like I owe the fans a lot. This match will provide additional motivation for me and the entire team. Every match will be a celebration to give to the Vietnamese fans. Today’s victory is a gift for all the fans.”
