Vietnam national team dominates the ASEAN Cup 2024 Best XI, as selected by fans on the tournament’s official website, with an impressive seven players included in the lineup.
The recently announced fan-voted Best XI reflects the stellar performance of the ASEAN Cup 2024 champions. Among the standout names, goalkeeper Nguyen Dinh Trieu earned his spot after taking over the starting role from Nguyen Filip during the tournament. Dinh Trieu’s heroics, including four critical saves across both legs of the final, were instrumental in Vietnam’s triumphant campaign.
The defensive lineup features Bui Tien Dung, Nicolas Mickelson (Thailand), Bui Hoang Viet Anh, and Pansa Hemviboon (Thailand). Bui Tien Dung, a reliable anchor for Vietnam, was pivotal in diffusing high-pressure situations throughout the tournament.
Bui Hoang Viet Anh’s inclusion raised some eyebrows, given that he only played in one of Vietnam’s eight matches. His selection over consistently strong performers like Duy Manh or Thanh Chung has sparked debates. Similarly, Pansa Hemviboon of Thailand, who had a solid run to the final, attracted controversy for his own goal in the second leg, which proved costly for the War Elephants.
In midfield, Nguyen Quang Hai and Nguyen Hai Long represented Vietnam, joined by Kyoga Nakamura (Singapore) and Sandro Reyes (Philippines). Nakamura and Reyes shone as their teams’ linchpins, but some fans argue that Suphanat Mueanta of Thailand, with four goals and five assists, deserved a place over them.
The forward line features Nguyen Xuan Son and Nguyen Tien Linh, two key contributors to Vietnam’s championship success. Xuan Son, the tournament’s top scorer and MVP, was a unanimous choice, while Tien Linh chipped in with four goals and two assists.
The fan-voted ASEAN Cup 2024 Best XI highlights Vietnam’s dominance but also includes subjective selections. As such, it serves as a celebration of fan engagement rather than an expert consensus on the tournament’s finest performers.
