Crushing victory over Macau brings Vietnam women’s futsal closer to the World Cup

Vietnam Women’s Futsal Team officially secured their spot in the 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Championship after a dominant 21-0 victory over Macau, moving closer to their ultimate goal of qualifying for the Women’s Futsal World Cup.

Following their impressive 5-1 win against Myanmar in the opening match of the 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Championship qualifiers, Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang’s squad faced Macau on January 17. A win in this match would guarantee Vietnam a spot in the final round of the continental tournament.

Against a significantly weaker opponent, the Vietnam team controlled the match from the outset, scoring relentlessly. In just the first 20 minutes of the opening half, Vietnam surged to a 13-0 lead, with standout performances from Phuong Anh and Thu Xuan, who each netted a hat trick.

Entering the second half, Vietnam adopted a slower pace and eased their offensive pressure. However, team captain Thanh Hang and her teammates still managed to add eight more goals, concluding the match with a resounding 21-0 victory.

This result solidified Vietnam’s position at the top of the table with a perfect six points from two matches. It also guaranteed Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang’s team one of the top two spots in the group, securing their place in the 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Championship to be held in Inner Mongolia, China, in May 2025.

If Vietnam achieves a top-three finish in the continental championship, they will earn a historic berth at the inaugural Women’s Futsal World Cup, set to take place in November 2025 in the Philippines. This success represents a significant step forward for Vietnamese women’s futsal on the international stage.
