In a thrilling rematch at the Korean Women’s Volleyball League on the afternoon of February 26, GS Caltex Seoul Kixx overcame Daejeon Red Sparks, led by Indonesian standout Megawati Hangestri, with a 3–1 victory. The match provided a dramatic narrative of shifting momentum and key turning points that ultimately paved the way for Seoul Kixx’s comeback, despite a shaky start.
The opening set proved challenging for Seoul Kixx. Still reeling from their previous defeat, the team’s morale was low and Bich Thuy—one of the Vietnamese opposites on the team—struggled to make an impact. As a result, Daejeon Red Sparks edged out the first set with a narrow 22–25 win.
However, the second set saw a dramatic turnaround. Although the visitors initially built a lead, Seoul Kixx mounted a surprising surge mid-set, scoring six consecutive points. Bich Thuy contributed significantly by notching up two crucial blocking points during this momentum shift. Capitalizing on the sudden burst of energy, Seoul Kixx reversed their deficit and secured the set 25–21.
Set three marked a pivotal moment in the match. The turning point came when Daejeon Red Sparks’ middle blocker, Park Eun Jin, suffered an ankle injury and was forced to leave the court. Sensing the opportunity, Seoul Kixx exploited the weakened defense; the set ended 25–21 in their favor, with Bich Thuy adding two impressive spiking points to her tally.
In the decisive fourth set, the composure of Daejeon Red Sparks faltered further. Megawati Hangestri was unable to replicate her earlier dominance, as her aggressive spiking lost its sting. This lapse allowed GS Caltex Seoul Kixx to take control and win the set comfortably, 25–19, sealing a 3–1 overall victory.
On the individual statistics front, Bich Thuy finished the match with four points and posted an efficiency rate of 50%, compared to Megawati Hangestri’s 20 points at a 46% efficiency rate. Despite the lower individual scoring, Bich Thuy’s improved performance and contribution to the team’s defense played a crucial role in turning the match around for Seoul Kixx.
This win not only reflects GS Caltex Seoul Kixx’s ability to rally from a slow start but also highlights the importance of resilience and effective teamwork in overcoming adversities.
