Vietnam women’s national team crush Maldives 7-0 in Asian Cup qualifiers opener

Viet Tri, 29 June, 2025 – Vietnam women’s national team made a dominant start to their 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualification campaign with a commanding 7-0 victory over Maldives at Viet Tri Stadium.

This match marked Vietnam’s first official fixture since their friendly against China at the end of 2024. Facing a much weaker opponent, coach Mai Duc Chung’s squad quickly took control and imposed their rhythm from the opening whistle.

Vietnam stormed ahead with three goals within the first 15 minutes, including a brace from Van Su and another from Bich Thuy. The onslaught continued as Nguyen Thi Van, Nguyen Thi My Anh, and Ngoc Minh Chuyen each added to the scoresheet, helping Vietnam head into halftime with a comfortable 6-0 lead.

In the second half, Coach Mai Duc Chung introduced veterans Hai Yen and Huynh Nhu to maintain their match sharpness and integrate them into the ongoing campaign. Despite numerous opportunities created, Vietnam’s forwards were unable to convert many of them due to inefficient finishing in front of goal.

The only goal after the break came from striker Hai Yen, sealing a comprehensive 7-0 victory for the hosts.

Vietnam will next face the United Arab Emirates on July 2 in their second group match. With this dominant performance, the team has sent a strong message of intent as they aim to top Group E and qualify for the final tournament of the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
