Vietnam shooting team clinches historic Asian gold medal

India, 9 February 2026 – Shooter Nguyen Thuy Trang delivered an outstanding performance to win the gold medal in the women’s 25m sport pistol event at the 2026 Asian Shooting Championships, currently taking place in India.

On February 9, the Vietnam shooting team competed in the women’s 25m pistol event with three representatives: Trinh Thu Vinh, Nguyen Thuy Trang, and Nguyen Thuy Dung. All three athletes showed strong determination in the qualification round.

After the series of shots, Nguyen Thuy Trang impressed by scoring 584 points, finishing third overall to secure a place in the final. Trinh Thu Vinh ranked 12th with 576 points, while Nguyen Thuy Dung placed 16th with 569 points, narrowly missing out on qualification.

In the final, Thuy Trang demonstrated remarkable composure and consistency, steadily overcoming a field of strong contenders. The contest reached a dramatic climax as she went head-to-head with India’s Bhaker Manu, with both shooters tied at 35 points. In the decisive shots, Thuy Trang held her nerve to emerge victorious, earning a convincing gold medal for Vietnam.

This marks Nguyen Thuy Trang’s first Asian championship gold medal at senior national team level, a major milestone following her silver medal at the SEA Games 33.

Also on February 9, Vietnam’s women’s pistol team secured an additional bronze medal in the team event with a total score of 1,729 points, wrapping up a highly successful day for Vietnamese shooting.
