Agoge athlete suspended from LION Championship

Hanoi, 15 July 2026 – Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation (VMMAF) has officially announced a disciplinary decision against athlete Ha The Anh following a review of his performance in the Duo MMA bout at LION Championship 33, held on July 11, 2026, at Quan Ngua Sports Palace in Hanoi.

According to Notice No. 13/TB-LĐVTTHVN, issued on July 14, 2026, the Federation conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the Duo match between the Vietnamese pair of Ha The Anh and Tran Viet Anh and the Chinese duo of Zeng Junsong and Peng Zhengwen.

The Federation concluded that throughout the contest, Ha The Anh failed to demonstrate a positive competitive attitude, showed little initiative in executing offensive techniques, and did not fully display the fighting spirit expected in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). According to the Federation, his performance drew negative reactions from spectators in attendance and adversely affected both the professional standard and the reputation of the LION Championship.

As a result, VMMAF has suspended Ha The Anh from all LION Championship competitions from July 13, 2026, through December 31, 2027. The Federation described the sanction as a necessary step to uphold the tournament’s professional standards, discipline, and reputation.

The disciplinary measures were not limited to the athlete alone. The Federation also issued a formal reprimand to Agoge and the coaching staff responsible for supervising Ha The Anh, stating that they had failed to provide adequate professional guidance and athlete management, contributing to a performance that fell short of the values and standards promoted by the LION Championship.

In addition, Agoge has been instructed to conduct an internal review and submit a written report to the Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation within five days of receiving decision No. 52/QĐ-BTV-LĐVTTHVN.

Through this disciplinary action, the Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a professional, fair, and respectful competitive environment that reflects the true spirit of martial arts. The decision also serves as a warning to all athletes, coaches, and clubs participating in the LION Championship, emphasizing the importance of complying with the tournament’s regulations and preserving the integrity of Vietnamese MMA.
