Vietnam women’s national football team has made some roster adjustments ahead of the three-nation friendly tournament in Chongqing, China.
During the October 2024 FIFA Days for women’s national teams, Vietnam received an invitation to participate in this friendly tournament, which includes three teams: China, Vietnam, and Uzbekistan.
Before their opening match, the Vietnam women’s team had to adjust their lineup due to an injury to forward Nguyen Thi Tuyet Ngan, who is undergoing treatment. As a result, the coaching staff called up forward Vu Thi Hoa as a replacement.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Vietnam’s head coach, Mai Duc Chung, stated: “This tournament takes place as the Vietnam women’s team is undergoing a rejuvenation process. Therefore, it will be a great opportunity for our players to learn from strong opponents and gain experience for the future. We previously lost 0-1 to Uzbekistan during the Paris Olympic qualifiers. I haven’t forgotten that match. Uzbekistan’s women’s football has made significant progress and is now a competitor for a World Cup spot. They have tall, physically strong, and fit players. These upcoming matches will allow us to gain valuable experience and learn.”
Uzbekistan has also made notable changes, with Vladimir Panov taking over as head coach. Panov, who led Uzbekistan’s U17 women’s team in 2023, replaces Japanese coach Midori Honda.
According to the schedule, Vietnam will face China on October 29. Before that, Mai Duc Chung’s squad will play against Uzbekistan on October 23, while the China vs. Uzbekistan match will take place on October 26.
